January News
Service Hours: As we enter our second semester,
all third grade students need to remember to turn in service hours. The expectation for the year was 20 hours or more.
Students can write the information on loose paper, have the adult helped sign the paper, and turn the information in to Mrs.
DeVoe. Remember to include the date of service, information stating what help was shared, and how much time was given
in service. Thank you to all people who turn in their forms early! Good luck!
Cold weather
clothing: All students go outside for recess and exercise during the winter months. We stay inside if the wind
chill or temperatures are zero or below. It is very important that all students wear appropriately warm clothing for
recess. They should have warm gloves, hats, and maybe even scarves. When snow falls, students need to have boots.
If they want to play in the snow they also need snow pants so they aren't sitting in wet clothes during the day.
Backpacks and student planners: All backpacks should
be cleaned out so only the daily school items are carried in them. Be aware of the weight carried in bags that
are full! Student planners are to be used daily in all classes. Students write down assignments in them, and use
them to pack up whatever they need for homework. Planners are supposed to go home every day. It is very helpful
when parents ask to see the planner daily. I appreciate parents signing them.
Things to do after school: All students
should read each day outside of school. This is so important for the development of reading and language skills.
Students can take AR tests over books they read at home. The St. Edward School website has a link to AR for testing
on the left side of the Home page.
Practice
those math facts!!! Many students are studying the subtraction basic facts for daily testing. When those are completed
students move on to multiplication basic facts. Daily practice brings all skills up.
Practice those spelling words!!!! We write the spelling words in our
planners each week. On Fridays I send home a spelling home worksheet. Students copy the words 2 times each.
They should cut off the typed list when they are done and keep it at home. Return the written words to school on Mondays.
